Rock Challenge

On Sunday 7th March Thornhill Primary took part in the Junior Rock Challenge at the Southampton Guildhall. The children have been working extremely hard on their dance moves and the staff have worked hard on costumes and scenery. The children did themselves proud and represented the school outstandingly! Although the children did not win overall, they did win 5 categories; Positive Inclusion, Healthy Living, Choreography, Hair & Make Up and Lighting Design.
Their extravaganza was an array of bright colours on the theme of One World...One Ball a celebration of unity and diversity, linked to this year’s World Cup. Mr Collins & Mrs Lucas would like to thank all the children, staff and parents who participated and who made this such a great success. The children are already planning and are very keen to take part again next year so watch this space!!

Thornhill Park Officially Opened

On 25th September 2009 local residents, school children from Thornhill and Hightown primary schools and distinguished guests were joined by The Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government, The Right Honourable John Denham MP, to officially open the new play area at Thornhill Park. The celebration marked the completion of the improvement project which focussed on improved access pathways, lighting, seating, signage, improved visibility in the woodland, and a vastly improved play area.

Groundwork Solent secured £237,000 for the capital improvements project and £5,000 revenue funding to sustain the long term future of the woodland. A ‘Friends of Thornhill Park’ group was established comprising local residents, local councillors and agency representatives who will work in partnership with the local authority to ensure that the targets set out in the project will continue to be met now that the improvements project is complete.

Thornhill Girls Romp to Victory!

Thornhill U11 girls' football team romped to victory over Moorlands school by beating them 11-0! It seems anything the boys can do the girls can match! Taylor scored a double hat trick with Alesha & Lauren both getting on the score sheet, with Moorlands scoring 3 own goals. The girls team have now kept a clean sheet for 18 consecutive months in the league. The next match is against Charlton. Well done girls!
